Delhi Kovid Cases Today: Third wave is underway in Delhi, Health Minister Satyendar Jain said. Curfew and work from home have been implemented in government offices over the weekend to prevent the sudden spike in Kovid cases in Delhi..
New Delhi: Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that Delhi is likely to report around 10,000 new Covid cases today, according to news agency ANI.
The positivity rate - the number of people testing positive for every 100 tests - is expected to rise by 10 per cent in the national capital, the health minister said.
The positivity rate yesterday stood at 8.3 per cent, which was also a significant increase from 6.46 per cent on Monday.
The third wave has set in in India, Mr. Jain said, adding, "For Delhi, it is the fifth wave."
Cautioning the residents of Delhi, Mr Jain said that though the symptoms of the highly contagious type Omicron seem mild, all covid-related protocols should be followed.
He said 40 per cent beds in private hospitals have been reserved to ensure that the national capital's health system is not affected by the surge in cases.
Shri Jain also said that only 300-400 samples are being sent from Delhi for genome sequencing as sequencing of all samples is not possible.
He said that the COVID testing has been increased and around 90,000 tests have been conducted today.
The national capital recorded 5,481 coronavirus cases and three related deaths yesterday as the government announced new restrictions.
Curfew and work from home have been implemented in government offices over the weekend to prevent the sudden spike in Kovid cases in Delhi. Under the restrictions, private offices can only function at 50 percent capacity,
Buses and Delhi Metro will run at full capacity to avoid long queues and crowds.
"There is nothing to worry about. Make the mask your shield," Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said yesterday.
In a dire warning, government sources said yesterday that Delhi could see 20-25,000 cases a day by mid-January and the number of hospitalizations could also rise.
