Green Bay, Wis. -- For a three-plus quarter, the San Francisco 49ers found it nearly impossible to move the ball against the Green Bay Packers' defense in a divisional playoff performance at Lambeau Field on Saturday night.
But a strong defensive performance, and game-changing plays from his special team units, changed the momentum of the late game and paved the way for a resounding 13-10 victory.
The 49ers would go on to play in their second NFC championship game in three seasons, and Aaron Rodgers once again failed to exact vengeance on the team, which opted to draft a Bay Area native with the first overall pick of the 2005 NFL Draft .
At the time of Alex Smith's San Francisco selection, and a 23-pick wait before the Packers moved up to 24th, Rodgers vowed to make the 49ers regret his decision. However, 17 years later, Rodgers has failed to beat San Francisco in four post-season meetings.
Now, the quarterback and repeat favorite as the NFL MVP enters an offseason that will be full of questions.
"I don't think it's really fair for anyone or myself to go down those paths at this point," Rodgers said on Saturday when asked about his future. "It's depressing, sad and refreshing. I'll have the conversation over the next week or so and start thinking after that."
