In order to thwart any attempt to disrupt the Republic Day celebrations, the security forces launched area domination patrols in villages near the International Border in Samba.
Preparations have started so that there is no hindrance in the Republic Day celebrations. To thwart any attempt by anti-national elements, security forces on Saturday launched territorial patrolling in forward villages along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police, assisted by other security forces, also carried out a search operation in the entire province as part of security arrangements in the Nikki Tawi area of Jammu, which is hosting the main Republic Day celebrations in the union territory. Officials said that Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will unfurl the national flag.
Police along with CRPF, BSF and Army started patrolling in the area in villages along the International Border in Samba district as part of a security exercise to keep an eye on suspicious movement from across the border. "We have started patrolling the area to find loopholes to further strengthen the border security grid," a police officer told PTI.
He said the long-distance patrol, covering a distance of 15 km per day, is a part of the domination of the region to thwart any attempt by anti-national elements to disrupt the Republic Day celebrations.
"There have been attempts from across the border to push armed terrorists and smuggle weapons to disrupt Republic Day celebrations," he said, adding that the police and other security forces are alive to the threat and have done all necessary measures have been taken. The Government of India has informed on Saturday that the Republic Day celebrations will now start from January 23 every year instead of January 24. News agency ANI quoted government sources as saying that it has been decided to include the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Earlier, the Modi government had started celebrating the birth anniversary of Subhas Chandra Bose as Parakram Divas. The government has focused on celebrating important aspects of India's history and culture.
