Jake Guenzel scored 37 seconds in overtime, Luis Domingue made 40 saves at the start of his season, and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the San Jose Sharks 2-1 on Saturday night.

Gwentzel and Chris Letang each had one goal and one assist as the Penguins won for the 12th time in 14 games. Sidney Crosby assisted the winner of Gwentzel, his 19th goal.

Rudolph's ballers scored San Jose's only goal, and Edin Hill made 25 saves.

Pittsburgh's third-leg goalkeeper Domingue got his chance to start when starter Tristan Jerry conceded six goals after a 6-2 loss to Los Angeles on Thursday. Backup goalkeeper Casey Desmith is in COVID-19 protocol. Domingue appeared in just one game with Calgary last season.
"It was a long time coming," he said. "Ever since camp, I was ready for the moment, I saw an opportunity and you either take it or not. I thought I was in focus tonight and we played till the last whistle.

Balkers connect with Eric Carlson's no-look, cross-ice pass. All-star Timo Meier was also credited with an assist. It was Balsar's first goal since 6 November and his third goal of the season.

The Penguins made it to Letang's breakaway in the middle of the second period. Letang sprinted to a loose puck outside the San Jose Blue Line and took it the rest of the way. He faked a forehand shot and then slid a backhander behind Hill for his third goal.

"We played a more committed game in the third period," Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said. "Our penalty kill was really good and took us forward. ... The first two periods were not nearly as good as we think we are capable of. Credit to San Jose, they worked really hard, but we did that Didn't play the kind of game that we are capable of doing in the first 40 minutes."

San Jose had a great opportunity late in the second period when Gwentzel was called for a four-minute double-minor for high sticking, but the Sharks were unable to capitalize on it.

"We had great chances," said Sharks captain Logan Couture. "We keep creating those opportunities and they're going to start soon."

The Sharks had two more power plays late in the third and failed to capitalize. They were 0 for 4.

The Sharks power play ranked 24th in Saturday's NHL, scoring on 17% of its chances.

"A power-play goal would have been nice," said Sharks coach Bob Boffner. "A lot of our guys are snakebiters. We had guys in front of the net, but we're not putting them in. We had 41 shots, tried to hit their goalkeeper harder, just not much luck."

point man

Gwentzel had an assist on Laytang's goal to extend his road point streak to 16 games. Gwentzel is one of five players in NHL history with road point streaks of at least 15 games.
