Jack della Madalena made the right start to his UFC career by defeating Pete Rodriguez by knockout in less than three minutes.

Della Maddalena boarded a plane to the United States without a fight, when her initial rival, Varley Alves, was knocked out.

Rodriguez stepped into the breach but was no match for the Perth local, who has now won 11 consecutive professional bouts.

No one could be sweeter than this, his first in the UFC.

"Oh my goodness that's smooth," Joe Rogan said of Della Maddalena's final combination that ended with a left hook that sent his opponent to the canvas.

"It was bad," said Daniel Cormier.

"Dude was sleeping on his feet."

Della Maddelena made her place in the UFC last year through Dana White's Contender Series.

"To be honest, I was waiting for the setbacks and they never came," della Maddalena later said of her debut in the organization.

He also nominated himself for the night's performance, saying, "That's what I like to call the 50G spot baby!" As he watched a replay of his knockout blow.

Rogan said the Australian was "something special".

"He's only 25. This kid has a huge future ahead of him."

Francis Nganou retained his heavyweight title against interim champion Cyril Gain, winning the main event by unanimous decision.

In the co-main event, Daveson Figueredo defeated Brandon Moreno, also by unanimous decision, to regain the title that Moreno had taken from him the previous year.

The trio are now facing each other in a trio of amazing fights, the first of which ended in a draw.
