The Queen's footman, who fainted after falling off the glass panel, hit her on the head

The Queen's royal footman has cheated death after being seriously injured on the head by a fall from a glass panel at Buckingham Palace.

The victim, Louis Williams, was reportedly found unconscious with bruises and cuts.

According to The Sun, the 22-year-old was on duty and was walking on a covered road when the incident happened.

His peers said that Louis was affected "in a bad way" and that he was lucky to survive the freak accident.

A friend told the publication: "It's been horrible. I can't believe how the glass fell on him. He was [injured] badly."

A source said that it was fortunate that Rani was not in the footman's place.

The source added, "Luckily the queen was not there. What would have happened if the glass had fallen on her? It's not something to think about."

Another source said: "Louis was very lucky that he only suffered cuts and bruises - but he has scars and head injuries. Everyone is saying he is very lucky to be alive.

"They've spent years and millions of pounds renovating the castle - but the bits are still falling down."

Meanwhile a Buckingham Palace spokesman said: "The health and safety of our employees is of paramount importance.

"The remaining glass panels were immediately removed, an investigation into the incident was launched and an independent investigation of all glass-covered umbrellas was carried out."
